Description: This Tour covers Caravaggio’s last years in Malta and Sicily, two of his most famous periods. He was at first feted and welcomed by the Knights of Malta in the island’s capital “Valletta” which will be European Capital of Culture in 2018.

Description: Ravenna is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. It was the capital of the Roman Empire of the West from 402AD until the collapse of the Empire in 476AD
It served as the capital of the Roman Empire of the west (Byzantine) until the invasion of the Lombards in 751AD, when it became the seat of the kingdom of the Lombards. During the Ravenna Festival the city bursts into light with the stars above and the Byzantine cathedrals and churches hosting a series of concerts. Their glorious mosaics are illuminated and create a magical light ranging from gold through the colours of the rainbow and provide an unforgettable background to the music.

Description: Dott. Rosa Maria Letts, an Italian, who studied a Masters at the Courtauld Institute and a M. Phil at the Warburg Institute, is our tour leader. Our local guide is Salvatore Mongiardo, an authority on the region and the Bronzes. He has written many books in English on these subjects.
Calabria is a beautiful region, with high mountains inland which descend dramatically to the violet sea below. High in the hills are a wealth of Byzantine and Medieval towns, churches, castles, and convents, while the coast is rich with the ruins of Greek settlements.

Description: The Tour visits the South East corner of Sicily, a beautiful, unspoilt region. Backed by the Iblei Mountains which descend gently south to the sea, they are ideal for wine production and the region has some of the best vineyards in Sicily. With viniculture going back to Greek and Roman Times, our visits to some vineyards combine excellent wines with some outstanding historical sites.
